The Youth and Development Consultancy Institute- Etijah, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the European Union, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports concluded the second round of  Destination Egypt 2030 activities in Qena Governorate from the 7th to the 9th of March, which included a 2.5 km long marathon on Friday, March 8th on Qena Corniche.

 

The activities started on Thursday March 7th with capacity building workshops, including theatrical performances dealing with issues such as early marriage by Y-PEER and an interactive reproductive health awareness session.

 

Dr. Alexander, Representative of the United Nations Fund in Egypt, and Mr. Jean-Marie MOREAU, Head of Human and Social Development at the EU Delegation in Egypt, joined the marathon with more than 2000 participants.  Also the Egyptian actor Ahmed Magdy and Egypt’s free style football “yorok” champion participated in the marathon. Additionally, Dr. Alexander had been involved in a policy dialogue, along with representatives from the governor’s office and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

 

Following the activities, a music concert took place by High Dam and Al Minaa bands, Sahar El Zoghby, and Yasmine Zaki as a part of UNFPA’s Music for Development initiative. Destination Egypt 2030 activities terminated with a tour in Dandara temple.

 

The initiative aimed to mobilize youth to encounter developmental challenges through participation in sports and music activities and capacity building initiatives. The initiative includes monthly activities in all governorates of Egypt on a three-day basis to raise awareness about various development issues and to promote various touristic areas within the governorates.
