About Etijah

 

Youth and Development Consultancy Institute – Etijah is a non-profit organization specialized in developing, improving and disseminating development methodologies in the field of youth and community development. Based in Cairo. Etijah primary concern is to create and tailor up-to-date and high-quality development methodologies, research tools, applicable practices of youth development and training delivery models, to be able to qualify youth by providing them with the skills, know-how, and aptitudes, as well as contribute in building the capacity of governmental and non-governmental youth-serving organizations. Our role is to provide youth with direct access to unconditional participation by providing them with practical tools and models for developing community-wide initiatives.

 

 

Background

 

In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis over the past decade, exacerbated by the Syrian crisis in 2017, Etijah has been committed to establish Safe Spaces for GBV Survivors Funded by UNFPA and implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. These spaces offer a comprehensive package of support, including mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), legal aid, protection services, and medical care for GBV survivors. Beneficiaries encompass refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, and members of host communities.

 

 

Consultant Responsibilities

 

• Medical Assessment for GBV Survivors:
Conduct thorough medical assessments of GBV survivors, with a focus on identifying physical injuries, offering appropriate diagnostic tests, and documenting findings to ensure proper care and support.

 

• Provide Immediate Medical Care for Sexual Violence Survivors:
Provide immediate medical care to sexual violence survivors within the first 72 hours, including administering Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) kits and other necessary medications to prevent transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV.

 

• Medical Examination and Health Counseling:
Perform complete medical examinations for survivors of GBV, providing appropriate care and counseling. Engage in health counseling with survivors of violence or those at risk, supporting them through their recovery process and offering guidance on their medical and emotional well-being.

 

• Emergency Response and Referral:
Respond to urgent medical cases and provide referrals for specialized services, ensuring all GBV survivors receive comprehensive care and follow-up support. Facilitate appropriate referrals for mental health, legal, and social support services when necessary.

 

• Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential medical records of each survivor’s condition, treatment provided, and follow-up care needed. Ensure all documentation meets legal and ethical standards for GBV cases.

 

• Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams:
Work closely with social workers, counselors, legal experts, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to care for GBV survivors. Attend regular case management meetings to provide medical insights and recommendations.

 

• Training and Awareness:
Participate in regular training sessions on GBV-related medical interventions and remain updated on best practices. Educate the community and healthcare workers on GBV prevention, detection, and appropriate medical responses.

 

• Support for High-Risk Individuals:
Provide medical support and counseling for individuals at high risk of GBV, including individuals in abusive relationships, those in conflict zones, and individuals with specific vulnerabilities (e.g., minors, elderly).

 

• Confidentiality and Sensitivity:
Ensure strict confidentiality in all interactions and documentation, respecting the dignity and privacy of all survivors. Approach all cases with sensitivity, ensuring a trauma-informed and non-judgmental approach in care.

 

 

 

Qualification and Experiences

 

• Medical Degree (MD) and valid medical license

• Experience working with survivors of trauma or GBV

• Strong knowledge of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), STI management, and other relevant medical protocols

• Experience in Gynecological medicine and reproductive health counseling

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

• Fluency in English and Arabic

• Strong commitment to human rights, particularly gender-based violence prevention and response

 

Desired Skills:

 

• Experience in medical training for staff or community outreach programs

• Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or crisis situations

• Knowledge of local GBV laws, reporting mechanisms, and community resources

• Ability to work with vulnerable populations, including children and persons with disabilities
