Partner: WHO & The Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction.
Year of Implementation: 2015
This initiative was to encourage and mobilize the efforts of drama makers and legislators to work together in order to issue a proposed legislation that aligns with freedom of creativity and expression and regulates tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship in the Egyptian drama. The main objective was advocating policy makers and legislators to contribute in organizing tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship in the Egyptian drama and TV series.
In this context, the initiative succeeded in signing a Media Charter of Honor between the Fund for Drug and Treatment of Addiction and the Media Syndicate in the presence of ex-Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahleb, Minister of Social Solidarity and Head of the Fund for Drug Control Dr. Ghada Waly. By the end of the initiative, new legislation has been proposed to the parliament to regulate the smoking scenes in drama.
