The Youth and Development Consultancy is an organization specialized in youth development. It aims to empower young people by equipping them with skills, building their capacities, and contributing to the capacity-building of government and non-governmental organizations serving youth. Established in Cairo in 2006, the organization serves Egyptian youth at various levels using local resources. Our role is to provide young people with the capabilities to engage effectively and to provide tools and practical models for designing community initiatives.
About the project:
Art for Development is an initiative that aims to utilize art, including theater and music, as a tool to raise awareness about various population issues. These issues include family planning, the concept of nuclear families, female genital mutilation, child marriage, and gender-based violence. The Youth and Development Consultancy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and funded by the United Nations Population Fund, implements a project to raise awareness about population issues. The project is implemented in various youth centers across 17 governorates. As part of this project, a group of volunteers in different governorates improvises interactive theater performances and songs to be used in awareness programs. In November, the project will organize a Community Arts Festival in Cairo to showcase the productions and improvisations of this year in front of an audience from Cairo. The festival aims to raise awareness about the project’s adopted issues in general and to raise awareness about the role of art in development.
As part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness about volunteering and encourage participation in various volunteer activities, “volunteerism” has been chosen as the theme for this year’s festival. This was stems from our strong belief in the value of volunteer work and our deep understanding of its importance in community building and achieving social change.
